Description

Some bracelets are manufactured and some are strung, stone by stone, by a pair of hands. The Kathmandu is the second kind. A row of natural turquoise rondelles from Nepal circles the wrist in every shade the earth felt like making that day, deep teal, sea green, the odd flash of sky, broken up by little sterling silver beads and finished with a hand carved spiral bead and a trio of tiny flower stamped barrels. The clasp is a simple silver hook, the kind used on jewellery long before anyone invented the spring ring, and the whole thing reads less like an accessory and more like something found in a very good market stall halfway up a mountain.

The stones deserve a close look, because they are the entire point. Natural turquoise is never uniform, and these beads carry the full fingerprint of the real thing: veins of brown matrix running through the blue, patches where green wins over teal, small variations in depth and tone from bead to bead. None of that is a flaw. It is the difference between stone that grew in the ground and glass pretending, and it means the bracelet on your wrist will never quite match anyone else's, including the one in these photographs. If yours leans a little greener or carries a bolder vein, that is the earth's edit, not ours.

Each bracelet is strung by hand on professional beading wire, the same supple, strong stringing used by jewellers for proper stone pieces. It holds the beads in a smooth, fluid curve around the wrist and stands up to daily wear beautifully. It asks only one kindness in return: don't fold or crease the bracelet in half when you take it off. Let it keep its natural circle in a dish or pouch and the wire will hold its shape for years.

At 17 centimetres it sits comfortably on wrists up to about 15 centimetres, and because every piece is made by hand rather than pulled from a shelf, we can string one to your exact wrist if you'd like. Choose the custom length option and leave your wrist measurement at checkout, and yours will be made to fit.

On the wrist it is pure texture and colour, the piece that makes a linen shirt look like a holiday. It stacks the way turquoise always has, effortlessly, against polished silver especially: try it beside our Knot bangle and watch the two argue beautifully. And as a gift, a strand of real stone strung by hand carries a kind of weight that mass made pieces simply don't. It says someone chose this, for you, on purpose.

Every Kathmandu arrives gift boxed and ready to give. And because no two stones ever repeat, neither do two bracelets. The one that reaches you exists exactly once.

CARE INSTRUCTION

Sterling silver is a precious mental and may require cleaning from time to time. Using the polish cloth given gently rub the silver several times, rinse the silver thoroughly in warm water and then carefully dry. This will remove the tarnish and dullness, keeping your sterling silver like new. When you are not wearing your piece, you can store it in the pouch provided to help minimize tarnishing. Please note, chorine and bleach accelerate tarnishing and should be avoided.
