Description

This is the pearl necklace that does the heavy lifting.

You know how some pieces of jewellery sort of exist in your collection — pretty, but never the one you actually reach for? This isn't that piece. This is the one you reach for. Big, real, properly chunky freshwater baroque pearls hand-strung into a 45cm necklace that lands on the collarbone like it was made for it, finished with a sculptural hammered gold link clasp at the front that's almost a piece of jewellery in its own right. There's nothing quiet about this pearl necklace, and that's the whole point.

The pearls are real, hand-picked natural freshwater baroque pearls between 9 and 11mm — which, in pearl terms, is properly substantial. None of the dainty seed-pearl whisper thing here. These are the pearls that catch the light from across a room and make people lean in to look closer. Each one is slightly different in shape (some softly round, some leaning egg-shape, some with the lovely off-kilter ridges that baroque pearls are famous for), so no two necklaces we sell are ever exactly the same. The lustre on these specific pearls is really something — they've got that proper deep mother-of-pearl glow with hints of pink, cream, and silver depending on how the light hits them. Up close, you can see the tiny natural growth ridges and faint pearl skin variations that prove these are genuinely cultured freshwater pearls, not the resin imitation versions you'll see floating around fast-fashion sites.

But honestly, the clasp is the part people are going to talk about. Instead of hiding a boring spring ring at the back, we've put a sculptural hammered gold double-link closure at the front of the necklace, where it actually shows. It's two interlinked oval rings in an organic hammered finish, with a tiny detail of cz stones across the connector bar that catches the light. It looks like a piece of fine jewellery you'd find at a boutique on a side street in Florence. And the cleverest bit — and this is what makes this necklace ridiculously good value — is that the clasp is designed to open and connect to your other Deja vu Jewellery baroque pearl pieces. Clip it onto our Grand Baroque Pearl Bracelet and suddenly you've got an opera-length statement necklace. Open it up and wear the front-facing clasp as a deliberate styling moment. Use it as a bracelet by itself by clipping the two ends together (it's flexible enough). One piece, multiple completely different looks.

The hardware is copper finished with a thick gold plating, so you get that warm rich gold tone without the fine-jewellery price. The pearls are knot-secured between the larger pearls with tiny gold accent beads to give the strand a beautiful drape — no stiff lifeless line, no pearls clattering against each other.

At 45cm, this is a true princess length — the most universally flattering necklace length on basically every neck shape and every neckline. It works open over a white shirt, sits beautifully against a V-neck dress, looks intentional against a crew neck, and is genuinely the most-photographed length in pearl jewellery for good reason.

The design idea behind this one came from realising that most of the "statement pearl necklaces" on the market force you into one outfit category — either super traditional ladies-who-lunch pearls or super avant-garde stylist-only pieces. We wanted to make one that lived in the middle. Wear it with a slip dress to a wedding and it photographs like fine jewellery. Wear it with a white tank and denim to brunch on a Sunday and it photographs like effortless cool. Wear it over a black turtleneck in winter and it photographs like editorial. The pearls do the work; the clasp does the styling.

Pearl care: keep this one away from perfume, chlorine, salt water and the shower (pearls are organic and dehydrate over time if exposed to chemicals). Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wearing. Store it lying flat in the gift box rather than dangling, to preserve the cord. With basic care, real freshwater pearls like these will outlive you — they're genuinely an heirloom-level piece.

Comes packed in our Deja Vu Jewellery gift box, ready to give as a milestone gift, wedding gift, anniversary, "mother of the bride" piece, big birthday, or just because you decided you deserved it (you did).

If you've been waiting for the "real" pearl necklace — the one you'll actually hand down to your daughter one day — this is it. Statement baroque freshwater pearls in this size and quality with a designer-grade clasp typically sit in the $300–$500 bracket at boutique jewellers in Australia, and we've kept ours well under that without compromising on the pearls themselves. Each strand is hand-strung and hand-selected, so we genuinely get a limited number per drop. If you've already got our Grand Baroque Bracelet, this necklace clips straight onto it for the full opera-length look — it's the most-asked-about styling moment on our Instagram. Worth grabbing both while they're in stock.

CARE INSTRUCTION

For gold-plated silver jewelry, it is best to avoid wearing the jewelry in the shower or the pool. Avoid getting the jewelry wet frequently and avoid any exposure with harsh chemicals, lotions, or soaps.

All gold-plated silver jewelries are TARNISH RESISTANT, they still require more care in order to prolong the life. When they are not in use, store them in the box or bag it comes with and put it away in a dry and dark area.
