Description

Two tiny bubbles of pale ocean, sitting on the lobe.

These are the studs that quietly become your most-worn pair. A small round dome of natural blue topaz, hand-cut into a smooth cabochon shape (cabochon = no facets, just a soft polished dome — which is what gives these their bubble look), set into a clean bezel of 925 sterling silver. There's no fuss, no halo, no prongs catching on jumpers. Just the colour of the stone and the colour of the silver, sitting together. It's the simplest possible idea, executed properly.

The blue topaz here is natural — not synthetic, not glass, not crystal. Real blue topaz pulled out of the ground, hand-shaped into these tiny domes one by one, which is why each pair has its own subtle character. Some lean more icy-pale, some have a faint hint of sea-green, some show the lightest cloud of natural inclusions inside (those tiny wisps you can see in some of the photos — that's natural mineral matter, the same thing you see in fine gemstone jewellery at every price level, and it's the proof that the stone is genuinely natural rather than lab-grown). It's the kind of small variation that makes a real stone real. Each pair you receive will be its own — the colour will not be a perfect match to the photos, and that's the whole point.

A quick honest note on natural stone, because we'd rather over-explain it than have you surprised when your earrings arrive: natural topaz often has small internal features — fine veiling, hair-thin inclusions, faint colour zoning, the occasional tiny black mineral speck. These aren't flaws. They're the fingerprints of a real stone, and gemmologists actually look for them as proof of natural origin (perfectly clean, completely uniform "topaz" is almost always synthetic). If you want something flawless and identical pair-to-pair, lab-grown stones are the move. If you want a piece of the earth that's quietly different from anyone else's, that's what natural blue topaz gives you.

The setting is solid 925 sterling silver — the bezel, the posts, every part of it. Sterling silver is hypoallergenic for the vast majority of people including most who can't wear cheaper alloy or plated posts, so these are safe to wear daily and to keep on for the small life things you don't want to take earrings off for. The bezel finish is clean and smooth, no rough edges, no exposed claws — which makes them comfortable to sleep in if you're someone who sleeps in earrings, and totally safe for second piercings and helix / cartilage piercings. At 5-6mm, they sit very close to the lobe with a low profile, which is exactly the shape that works as a high-up ear stud as much as a standard lobe stud.

Stylistically these are properly versatile. They're soft and clean enough for everyday wear (work, study, weekend), pretty enough to wear as your only pair to a wedding, and small enough to layer beneath bigger statement earrings on the same lobe. Pale blue is one of the loveliest, most flattering jewellery tones — it brightens against pale skin, looks fresh against tanned skin, and pulls warmth out of cool skin tones. The cabochon shape is a deliberate choice over faceted: facets sparkle aggressively, cabochons glow softly. These have that quiet, milky kind of luminescence that feels more old-world than dramatic.

The design idea behind these sits right at the centre of what we keep doing as a brand. We wanted to make a piece of fine-jewellery-style gemstone earring that didn't price out of the everyday — a pair of real-topaz studs you can actually own as a stud rather than a special-occasion piece. The bubble cabochon shape is meant to feel slightly nostalgic, slightly artisanal — like something you might have picked up at a tiny atelier in a coastal town in Portugal. The déjà vu of fine craftsmanship that doesn't try to be loud.

Topaz is also the traditional birthstone for November, and natural blue topaz is associated in folklore with calm, clarity, and emotional balance — which makes these a particularly meaningful gift for someone born in November, but also for someone going through a transition, starting a new chapter, or just someone you love who could do with a soft little reminder to breathe.

These bubble topaz studs are made in small batches because each stone is hand-cut, so colour and clarity genuinely vary from batch to batch. If the pale, soft, hand-made-by-someone feeling of these speaks to you, this is the moment to grab a pair — yours will be subtly its own.

CARE INSTRUCTION

Sterling silver is a precious mental and may require cleaning from time to time. Using the polish cloth given gently rub the silver several times, rinse the silver thoroughly in warm water and then carefully dry. This will remove the tarnish and dullness, keeping your sterling silver like new. When you are not wearing your piece, you can store it in the pouch provided to help minimize tarnishing. Please note, chorine and bleach accelerate tarnishing and should be avoided.
